How the Capture Pro Camera Clip Works
A) Quick-Release Plate : This is the part of Capture that attaches to your camera body. It is made from machined, anodized aluminum. The red pad is made from a special polymer that molds to the base of your camera to prevent twisting. There are 3 models of plate to choose from, and you can learn about those here.
B) Quick-Release Button : When your camera is locked into Capture, press this button to remove it so you can take a picture. The button is made from Delrin, a type of thermoplastic that is ultra-strong and self-lubricating.
C) Clip : This is the portion of Capture that holds the quick-release plate (A). It has a channel that the quick-release plate slides and locks into. The clip is made from die-cast, post-machined powdercoated aluminum.
D) Back Plate : The back plate allows the clip (C) to be clamped onto your belt or strap. The back plate is held to the clip by 2 adjustable bolts (G). Like the clip, the back plate is die-cast powdercoated aluminum.
E) Hand Strap Loops : These allow you to use a hand strap while you're using Capture.
F) Twist Lock : This is an extra security lock for your camera. When twisted down, your camera will not come out, even if you press the quick-release button (B). The twist lock prevents theft and accidental release.
G) Clamping Bolts : These bolts hold the clip onto your belt or strap. They are made from cold-forged zinc and can be tightened or loosened by hand.
Using the CapturePRO Camera Clip
1. Install the plate. - Install the quick-release plate onto the tripod mount on the bottom of your camera. Screw the plate in with your hands or a 4mm hex wrench (included), twisting it tight to ensure a solid connection.
2. Open the clip - Loosen the clamping bolts to unclamp the clip and back plate and swivel them open.
3. Wear the clip - On a backpack: the backplate sits behind your left backpack strap and the clip sits in front of it. To get Capture around thick shoulder straps you can loosen the clamping bolts all the way or remove them. Capture fits any strap up to 3 inches wide and 0.5 inches thick. On a belt: loop the backplate behind your belt to the right of your buckle. Swivel the clip closed and hand-tighten the clamping bolts. Capture works best when the top clamping bolt rests on the top edge of your belt
4. Clip in your camera - Lock your camera in by sliding the quick-release plate into the clip. Insert your camera with the lens facing down to maximize stability and comfort. You can slide your camera into the clip in different directions, allowing for easy lens changes.
5. Take your camera everywhere -Capture holds your camera rigidly, which means you can do any physical activity with your DSLR. To access your camera simply press the quick-release button and slide your camera out.

MICRO - The MICROplate is a slimmed down version of the ARCAplate - ideal for compact-mirrorless and slim-body point-and-shoot cameras. MICROplate fits into ARCA-type tripod heads and slides into Capture in 2 directions. It has 2 hand strap loops.

Who is Capture for?
The short answer is anybody with a big camera. If you own a DSLR, Micro 4/3's or large point-and-shoot, Capture will make your shooting workflow exponentially easier. Most people who use Capture are on their feet and moving around a lot sometimes doing extreme physical activities, but often just walking around town, the studio, the wildnerness, or wherever their shooting environment happens to be. Here are some of the key activities where Capture can really make a difference
Hiking & Trekking
Travel & Backpacking
Skiing & Snowboarding
Parenting & Toddler-wrangling (aka lugging your camera and your kids around at the same time)
Studio Photography (multiple Capture units let you carry multiple camera bodies)
Photo-walks & Education
Live Music Photography
Diving (Capture works with any camera, including underwater ones)
Paddling & Portaging
What kinds of straps can Capture attach to?
Capture is designed to attach to any strap or belt that fixed to your body or any of your pre-existing gear. Capture can attach to a strap with the maximum width of 3 inches (7.6cm). Capture does not require a completely rigid strap (i.e. you don't need special belts or backpacks) but it works better on straps that are stronger and more secure (canvas, leather, ballistic nylon, etc). Most commonly users attach Capture to belts and backpack shoulder straps, but it can also be used with climbing harnesses, life vests, and many other types of gear.
I'm an aggressive outdoor enthusiast. Is Capture going to work with all my activities?
Capture can adapt to just about any activity. Capture users have taken their units downhill skiing, kayaking, hiking, motorcycling, mountain biking, fishing and mud racing to name a few. Other folks use Capture to free up their hands for pushing a stroller or holding a walking cane. It's really up to you to decide what activities you want to use it for. Capture will hold your camera, that we can assure you.
How much weight can Capture hold?
The quick release locking mechanism on Capture can withstand over 100lbs. of force, as shown in the video below. This is more than enough to hold any camera/lens/battery combination out there. The limitation you'll face is in the strap, belt or substrate you choose to attach your camera to. On a backpack that has a lot of weight in the back, a sternum strap, and a waist strap, you'll be able to comfortably put a lot of gear on it (i.e. long zoom lenses, not just camera bodies). A professional camera belt can easily support a number of Capture units, each holding a body and a beefy lens. On the flip side, a thin belt that rides below the top of the hips isn't going to hold as much weight.
Will Capture work well with a battery grip, or camera bodies like the Canon 1D or Nikon D3?
Capture can absolutely hold professional setups or cameras with battery grips. However, you should be cautioned about the ergonomics of using these setups, particularly with normal waist belts and straps. Putting a battery grip (and a flash) on your camera gets the center of gravity further away from the body, and makes Capture less effective. Some people have found success using battery grips and flashes, and that's great, however, we are not actively promoting Capture as a tool for large body cameras because it is a matter of opinion on how effective it is. Without question, the benefits of Capture are diminished anytime your setup's weight ventures too far from the base of the camera. We do, however, promote the use of Capture with a professional-grade camera belt like the Think Tank Pro Speed. When using Capture with a pro belt, the weight of heavier, bulkier rigs is much better supported. Many pro shooters choose this kind of setup for Capture.
Can I use Capture with a hand strap?
You bet. Capture's quick release plate is equipped with 4 hand strap loops so you can secure a hand strap for extra grip. Capture's hand strap loops are the same size as the standard strap loops that come on many DSLR bodies. If you're looking to buy a hand strap, we recommend you go into a camera store and try out a few with Capture before purchasing one.
